For Ages 0-6
Raise a Reader Series Reading together with children builds your bond and their future reading skills. Learn from library staff about early literacy tips you can take home to encourage your child to read, write, sing, talk, and play their way to future reading success. Our storytimes feature content designed for specific ages, but you are welcome to attend any storytimes that fit your family's needs. Continue reading to learn more about the focus of each storytime.
All storytimes are wiggle-friendly! It is always okay to come in and out of the room as needed. Sensory processing aids (fidgets, sunglasses, headphones) are available to assist children who feel overstimulated.
Baby Storytime - Weekly. Focus on songs, rhymes, and finger plays, with a short book reading. The storytime room is open before and after for socialization and play. Best enjoyed by infants in lap.
Toddler Storytime - Weekly. Focus on big-body movement, letter knowledge, social-emotional skills, and longer focus. Includes a longer story, parachute play, and bubbles. Best enjoyed by 18mo-3yr. Craft or activity may follow.
Preschool Storytime - Weekly. Focus on kindergarten readiness! More stories, more rhymes, still the same fun. Best enjoyed by ages 3-6.
Bilingual Family Storytime - Weekly. Enjoy stories, songs, and more in both English and Spanish. Exposure to multiple languages helps children experience more sounds, preparing them to sound out words when they learn to read.
For School-Aged Children
School Visits - Library staff regularly visit all Burlington-Edison Elementary Schools to support learning, promote library resources in classrooms, and connect students to authors. We host the Burlington Book Battle for 3rd Graders, supporting them as they make the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Ask your young ones if they've seen us!
Gaming Club - Weekly. Work together and socialize over Switch games. Have a game you love? You're welcome to bring your own games or console.
Homeschool Explorers - Monthly during the school year. Join our Children's and Teen Librarians for a program just for homeschool families! Connect with other families and explore a new topic at every meeting. Activities for all ages. Caregivers are asked to accompany children under 9. The schedule of this program is flexible to allow us to better coordinate off-site visits.
Family Fun Nights - After-hours fun for the whole family!
